DETAILS

Malawi

Currently one of our biggest and most popular panels, the Malawi is built for any project that needs to cover serious ground fast, a long fence line, a basement man cave, a hotel lobby, or a zoo and aquarium exhibit, anywhere maximum coverage with the fewest seams matters most.

At close to 19' long and 8' tall, it covers more wall with fewer seams than almost anything else we make. Because of its size, it's best moved and positioned with 3-5 people, but once you're working with it, it's still remarkably easy to cut, modify, and flex into shape. Its slightly rectangular form and irregular, flat edges make seaming and joining a breeze across a big span, and once it's positioned, securing it is simple and fast: screws, staples, or adhesive, no special tools required.

Its surface detail is flatter and more uniform than some of our deeply textured styles, which makes it one of the easier panels to blend seamlessly. That same subtler detail is exactly what makes it such a strong backdrop, clean and versatile enough for a man cave or basement build, an enclosure, a stage, a photo setup, or a large cave build, without competing for attention with whatever's in front of it.

Where the Malawi gets used:

  • Long fence lines and other big outdoor stretches
  • Man caves, basements, and other large residential accent walls
  • Zoo and aquarium exhibits and animal habitats
  • Hotel lobbies, restaurants, and hospitality feature walls
  • Museums and themed attractions
  • Movie and photography sets, stage and event backdrops

Design tip: Want more visual flair without covering the whole space in a busier, more expensive panel? The Malawi pairs beautifully with our Basalt panels (small or large) in a matching color. Use the Malawi to cover most of the wall cleanly, then bring in a section of Basalt as a textured focal point.

FIRE RATING & COMMERCIAL USE

A Class A fire rating option is available for this panel at checkout, useful for commercial projects or spaces with strict municipal code requirements.

The Malawi is rated for indoor, outdoor, and underwater use, so the same panel works for a climate-controlled interior feature wall, an outdoor themed space, or a submerged exhibit or water feature.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is a fire-rated version available?
Yes. A Class A fire rating can be added as an option at checkout for an additional cost. See the Fire Rated Documentation link below for details.

How many people does it take to install?
Because of its size, the Malawi is best moved and positioned with 3-5 people rather than one person alone. Once it's in place, it secures to any solid backing surface, drywall, plywood, or concrete, with screws, staples, or adhesive.

Can it be used outdoors, poolside, or underwater?
Yes. It's built to perform indoors, outdoors, and in submerged applications like water features and aquarium exhibits.

How does the Malawi compare to other large panels like Basalt or Cobblestone?
The Malawi has flatter, more uniform surface detail, which makes it faster to seam and join across very large spans. If you want deeper, more dramatic texture, or want to add a textured accent to a Malawi build-out, take a look at Basalt or Dragonstone.
