48x24 Ledge Background – Best for Bearded Dragons, Lizards, Reptiles & Aquariums

Bring a piece of the wild into your enclosure with the 48x24 Universal Rocks Ledge Background—a highly detailed 3D background designed to look and feel like your animal’s natural habitat. This background is especially popular for bearded dragons, and also perfect for many other lizards, snakes, amphibians, and freshwater or saltwater aquariums.

Molded from real rock ledges found in Australia, this background provides naturalistic climbing, basking, and hiding areas that encourage instinctive behaviors. Whether your animal is soaking up warmth, exploring their space, or taking cover, this background brings purpose and enrichment to their environment.

Crafted from our lightweight, flexible polymer blend with embedded crushed rock and sand, the surface is rugged for traction but gentle enough not to harm your animal. It’s also completely non-toxic, making it safe for both dry and aquatic setups.

The 48x24 size fits most 120-gallon enclosures, with ledges that protrude approximately 3” to 7” depending on the formation. Each background is built ½” shorter than listed to ensure a proper fit in standard tanks. Need a smaller fit? We’ll trim it at no extra charge—just include your measurements at checkout.

Installation is simple:
Apply 100% silicone or Great Stuff foam to the back of the background, press into place, add weight, and let cure for 24 hours.
Optional: Use silicone to attach magnets (not included) for a less permanent install, or purchase clips to secure the top—note that clip compatibility depends on the thickness of your enclosure. Shop background clips here.

Flexible & Heat-Safe: This background is flexible for easier installation in tight enclosures. It is also safe to use with heat lamps as long as the bulb does not directly touch the surface.

Cleaning: Rinse before first use. For spot cleaning, use a hose, power washer, or wire brush. Avoid soaps, as residue can be harmful to animals—even though it won’t damage the product.

Rinse Before Use: We recommend rinsing the background with a hose or power washer before installation to remove any surface residue from manufacturing or shipping.

Cleaning After Installation: If buildup occurs on exposed areas, you can scrub them using a damp cloth or wire brush. While soap will not harm the background, we advise against using it, as residue may be harmful to animals.

Heat Lamp Use: Our backgrounds are safe to use under heat lamps, as long as the bulb is not in direct contact with the surface.

Long-Term Durability: Made from a non-toxic, flexible polymer blend, our backgrounds are designed to last for years in both dry and aquatic environments with minimal upkeep.

Note: Once permanently installed with silicone or foam,  spot cleaning of exposed areas is typically all that’s needed.
